Larry Hovis, who played the unforgettable Sergeant Schultz on the 1960s sitcom "Hogan's Heroes," has died at the age of 67. Hovis passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2003, at his home in Brentwood, California, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Born Larry Hovis in Wapato, Washington, on February 20, 1936, Hovis began his career as a singer, releasing several singles in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He made his acting debut in a small role in the 1962 film "The Nutty Professor." In 1965, he landed the role of Sergeant Schultz in "Hogan's Heroes," which became his signature role.
