Suspect in Attempted Attack on Donald Trump Identified
Thomas Matthew Crooks Killed by Secret Service
FBI Uses Technology to Identify Gunman
The FBI has identified the man who fired shots at former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday night as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. Crooks was killed by at least one Secret Service agent after he opened fire on the crowd gathered at Trump's rally.
Investigators are still working to determine Crooks' motive, but they believe he may have been targeting Trump specifically. Crooks had no prior criminal record or known affiliation with any extremist groups. However, authorities did find a small amount of ammunition and a handwritten note in Crooks' car that contained references to violence and Trump.
The FBI is currently trying to break into Crooks' cellphone with court approval in order to learn more about his plans and motive. They are also interviewing Crooks' family and friends in an effort to gather more information about his background and mental health.
